Wedding Planner in Charleston

We Are Poppies & Peonies

Charleston doesn’t ask to be the most beautiful city in the South — it simply is. And a wedding here deserves to match that standard: unhurried, refined, and alive with the kind of beauty that only this city can offer. At Poppies and Peonies, we plan and design Charleston weddings that feel as extraordinary as the setting itself.

We are a wedding planning and floral design company rooted in Upstate South Carolina, with deep experience serving couples across the state’s most storied venues and landscapes. What we bring to every Charleston wedding is the same: a commitment to flawless execution, a talent for intentional design, and an unwavering focus on making sure the only thing you’re doing on your wedding day is being present for it.

The result is a celebration that feels genuinely effortless from the inside — a full, cohesive experience where the florals, the logistics, and the atmosphere all speak the same language, from ceremony to last dance.

The Poppies and Peonies Signature

  • The Art of the Atmosphere Charleston’s venues don’t lack beauty — they lack nothing. What they deserve is a floral designer who can meet them at their level. We create lush, layered botanical environments that feel as though they grew from the space itself, whether that’s a 1786 waterfront estate, a restored Gothic Revival building steps from King Street, or a candlelit garden alive with Spanish moss and firelight.
  • Invisible Orchestration The Holy City has a personality all its own, and the best Charleston wedding feels like an extension of it — graceful, unhurried, and flowing naturally from one moment to the next. Behind every seamless transition is a team quietly managing every vendor, every cue, and every contingency, so that nothing disrupts your experience of the day you’ve worked so hard to build.
  • A Narrative-Driven Design Charleston has centuries of stories to tell, but yours is the only one that matters on your wedding day. We design every element — from the first bloom to the final toast — around who you are as a couple, not around a trend or a template, ensuring that your celebration is as personal and irreplaceable as the love behind it.

Kind Words from our Brides -

"What touched me most were the small, meaningful gestures, like gently reminding me to drink water throughout the day, that showed how much they truly cared about me, not just the event. Their warmth, kindness, and calming presence allowed us to soak in every moment and fully enjoy our day. I am forever grateful for all they did and couldn’t recommend them more highly."

Venues We Love in Charleston

Runnymede: Along the quiet banks of the Ashley River, Runnymede is one of the most hauntingly beautiful wedding properties in the entire Southeast. Ancient live oaks draped in Spanish moss, an open meadow overlooking the water, a 5,000-square-foot clear reception tent with hardwood flooring, and the dramatic two-story brick ruins of a Victorian-era estate — which survived fire three times dating back to 1704 — combine to create a venue unlike anything else in Charleston.

The Grand at 81 Mary: A restored 1850s Gothic Revival train station just steps from King Street, The Grand at 81 Mary is one of downtown Charleston’s most exciting newer additions to the wedding scene. Owned and operated by Duvall Catering & Events — Charleston’s oldest catering company with over 47 years of experience — it offers 13,000 square feet of versatile indoor and outdoor event space featuring exposed brick, original wooden beams, distinctive rosette windows, a barrel-vaulted ceiling, custom chandeliers, and beautifully appointed bridal suites.

Lowndes Grove: Repeatedly voted Charleston’s best wedding venue, Lowndes Grove is the last great waterfront plantation estate remaining on the downtown peninsula. Set along 14 acres of oak-lined riverfront on the Ashley River, the beautifully preserved 1786 main house — listed on the National Register of Historic Places — features formal parlors, period furnishings, a sweeping piazza, bluestone and oyster tabby terraces, and a 700-foot private dock that extends over the water for some of the most dramatic sunset portraits in the Lowcountry.

Why We Think Your Charleston Wedding Needs a Coordinator

Charleston is a city that rewards the people who know it well. Its most beloved venues have specific requirements, its most sought-after vendors book far in advance, and the particular magic of a great Lowcountry wedding — that sense of graceful ease that looks so effortless from the outside — takes real expertise to produce.

A professional Charleston wedding coordinator doesn’t just keep things on schedule. They carry the full weight of a complex, moving production while you remain completely unburdened by it. Every vendor arrival, every timeline adjustment, every behind-the-scenes decision belongs to us. Every toast, every first look, every dance belongs to you.

We have spent years cultivating the relationships, regional knowledge, and operational precision required to produce exceptional weddings at Charleston’s most iconic venues. When Poppies and Peonies is on your vendor team, the day doesn’t just go smoothly — it goes exactly as you always imagined it.

Frequently Asked Questions About Charleston Weddings

Do I need a pre-approved wedding planner for Charleston venues? Several of Charleston’s most prestigious venues — including Lowndes Grove — require couples to hire a licensed, pre-approved wedding planner as a condition of booking. Poppies and Peonies is experienced working within these requirements and can be engaged as your full-service Charleston wedding coordinator and floral designer from day one.

Does Poppies and Peonies offer both wedding planning and floral design in Charleston? Yes. We provide full-service wedding planning, partial planning, and day-of coordination alongside complete wedding floral design — making us one of the few companies serving Charleston able to deliver a truly unified aesthetic and logistical experience under one roof.

How far in advance should I book a Charleston wedding planner? Charleston is one of the most competitive destination wedding markets on the East Coast. We recommend reaching out 12–18 months before your intended wedding date, particularly for peak spring and fall bookings at the city’s most sought-after venues.
