We Are Poppies & Peonies

Weddings Made for the Mountains

Set on the Highlands-Cashiers plateau at roughly 3,500–4,000 feet, this corner of Western North Carolina is one of the Southeast’s most storied mountain wedding destinations — cooler summer evenings, long mountain views, and a Main Street full of boutique shops and restaurants for a true wedding weekend.

From the overlooks at Whiteside Mountain to the still water of Lake Glenville, the scenery here does a lot of the design work for us. Add in a cluster of celebrated resorts and historic inns, and it’s easy to see why couples travel from all over to marry here.

Poppies and Peonies is based in Anderson, South Carolina, and we regularly travel into the mountains for wedding weekends. We bring the same full-service planning approach we use at home — just with a mountain-resort logistics plan built in from day one.

Why Couples Choose Us

Your Cashiers & Highlands Wedding Planning Team

Local Knowledge

Cashiers & Highlands Wedding Venues We Love

From historic mountain resorts to secluded barns, these are a few of the plateau’s most celebrated settings for a wedding weekend.

High Hampton

A historic mountain resort in Cashiers at 3,600 feet, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The indoor Pavilion, lakeside lawn, Rock Mountain Terrace, and Laurel Garden offer a range of ceremony and reception settings, with an on-site inn and cabins for a true wedding weekend.

The Farm at Old Edwards

Part of the Old Edwards Inn & Spa collection in the heart of Highlands, this working farm property pairs a renovated barn with lake and mountain views for indoor or outdoor celebrations, with the boutique charm of Main Street Highlands just minutes away.

Half-Mile Farm

An adults-only boutique inn and part of the Old Edwards family of properties, ideal for an intimate wedding, rehearsal dinner, or welcome gathering before a larger celebration elsewhere on the plateau.

Flat Mountain Farm

A former rhododendron farm on roughly 30 acres outside Highlands, with lake and mountain views, a renovated barn for dining and dancing, and on-site cabins. Planning something small? Explore our intimate elopement services.

What We Really Do

More Than Another Wedding Vendor

A coordinator does more than hold a clipboard — we protect your peace of mind. Here is how we transform your experience.

Mountain wedding reception planning and coordination

Logistics Mastery. We take over the “nitty-gritty” — from finalizing floor plans to managing the complex load-in schedules of multiple vendors at your Cashiers or Highlands venue.

Timeline Execution. We ensure the ceremony starts on time, the toasts stay on track, and the transition from dinner to dancing is seamless, so the energy never dips.

The “Firefighter” Factor. If a centerpiece tips or a guest gets lost on the mountain, we handle it before you even know it happened — the buffer between you and the inevitable hiccups of a live event.

Vendor Liaison. We become the primary point of contact for everyone from the photographer to the DJ, ensuring they have what they need to do their best work for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

A wedding planner works with you from engagement — helping choose vendors, build timelines, and manage every decision. A day-of coordinator steps in closer to your date to execute the plan you have already built. At Poppies and Peonies, we offer both and everything in between.
We love bringing our planning and floral expertise to venues across the plateau, including High Hampton, The Farm at Old Edwards, Half-Mile Farm, and Flat Mountain Farm, as well as private mountain estates. If you’ve already booked a venue, we’ll build our planning around it; if not, we’re happy to help you find the right fit.
Absolutely. Poppies and Peonies is a full-service wedding florist as well as a planning team. Many couples book both — which means one unified vision, one point of contact, and a cohesive look from your bouquet to your centerpieces, even on a mountain wedding weekend.
For full planning, we recommend reaching out 12 to 18 months ahead. For day-of coordination, 6 to 9 months is ideal. Popular Cashiers and Highlands venues — especially for fall weekends — book up fast, so earlier is always better.
